Christmas in Mancora

christmas dinner

After a very sketchy border crossing from Ecuador into Peru, we´ve landed in a beauiful little town called Mancora. It´s fairly touristy, but exactly what we´re after this time of year. We´ve met up with Hells and Dane (from Brissie) and made a bunch of new friends here. We have the surf (although small), the sand and the sun. I´ve had my surf lesson and stood up first go... i must admit it was very easy to stand on a 9ft4 mal, especially as the lesson included a little peruvian guy with fins swimming the board and i back out after each wave, and telling me when to stand! But a few day´s later we hired boards and i stood up on my own... my arms are aching! I want my little guy back! Our bungalows on the beach are super cute, with hammocks for siestas, we´ve been polishing up our guitar skills... i can now play 2 songs (claire bowditch and angus julia stone) on my new shiny guitar... did i mention chris and i got new guitars for christmas! The food in this little town is super cheap and amazing! We´ve had seafood 3 times a day! The life here is perfect; surf in the mid morning, seafood lunches, afternoon siestas, and party all night! We´ve found an awesome bar on the beach, bonfire included. It´s mostly locals, so we get to practise our spanish... which becomes a lot more fluent after a few beers. We spent christmas eve here with Hells, Dane, Todd and the family that own the resort we´re staying at. Pilar and Eduardo cooked the most amazing feast for us all... pig on the spit, salads, some local dishes, sangria and pisco sours! we all sat around the bon fire playing guitar and singing songs and letting off fireworks.

On boxing day, we went fishing off a little town called Organos. Hells and I cought heaps more fish than the boys, she even copught an octopus and an eel! Pilar and eduardo threw together another bonfire and we roasted the fish for dinner!
