trekking in the sacred valley...

The original plan was to spend a few day`s in Cuzco for the Inti Raymi festival, then scoot over to Arequipa for a week or so, to then return to Cuzco for the Inka Trail... however... the state of Arequipa fell to bits due to looming elections, riotting on the streets caused road closures and even the burning down of a brigde, completely denying access to the city of Arequipa. And so, we spent 3weeks in Cuzco before the Inka Trail.

After the festival, we spent 3 days on the Apurimac River, white water rafting down grade 3-5 rapids in a beautiful canyon. followed by a week in the Sacred Valley staying in a beautiful little eco lodge, exploring the local Inca ruins. We also spent some time in Cuzco itself, a cute city with cobble stone streets, beautiful hand woven goods and amazing food!
