Uros the floating islands

and the mammoth floating boats, made from reeds

We decided to take a tour of Lake Titicaca from the Peruvian side, departing Puno on a little boat in the freezing cold... yep it snowed... but the locals didn-t seem to care, they didn-t even bother with shoes let alone big jackets.
First we visited the Uros floating Island, made completely of reeds. beautiful little islands with room for only a couple of families on each, living off the lake and it-s produce... an interesting lifestyle, we began to feel was only in existance for touristic purposes!
Then we ventured onto Isla Taquile, which lucky for us, was in full swing due to a local festival! beautiful costumes, interesting music and awful, awful dancing... partially due to alcohol consumption (not us, them). unfortunately, our tour guide lost us but we managed to see the sights on a self guided tour and to sneak onto another boat home... phewf!
