Ten of us from the Navimag hired two 4x4`s in Puerto Montt and explored the sleepy island of Chiloe. We found some beautiful stretches of Beach to test the 4x4 capability of our hire cars, saw some remote villages and met some cruisey locals. We indulged in the local seafood specialties of fresh crab, trout, salmon… and mixed seafood empanadas! We visited a few churches, artesian markets (famous for their woollen knitted crafts) and a few local watering holes.
We headed north through Puerto Varas to Ensanada just in time for a breathtaking sunset over Lago Llanquihue. Coincedently Ensenada was celebrating its annual Festival del Murta… a red Berry similar to our blue berries. We taste tested their pies, jams, cheese cakes, Honey and Mulled Murta Wine! Delicious!
Team Navimag then spent a night at the refugio on Volcan Osorno in the hopes for an early morning Sunrise, but alas the clouds did not permit it. So we settled for a drive up the volcano in search of adventure… the volcano is used as a ski field in the winter, we reached a gate at the end of the dirt road signifying where the ski hills start and cars must stop… so chris put the car into 4x4 and drove up the pist. (don`t worry mum, we didn`t roll it).

After saying goodbye to team Navimag, chris and I settled in Puerto Varas for a week. A cute little town with a heavy German influence, set on a beautiful lake. We found a Yoga school, fresh vegies galore and practised our spanish with the locals. We hiked around Petrohue and marveled at the lakes and waterfalls.
