The engagement... and the necklace that was....

... the happy couple.

We spent a day trout fishing on a beautiful river in Villarica. Parts of the river were tranquil, where other sections were boarderline grade 2 rapids… but we had a blast! Our guide paddled while we relaxed in the front of our little timber dinghy. He even baited our hooks for us, cooked our freshly caught trout for lunch, and filleted out leftovers for dinner.

On the other side of the lake lies Pucon, a little more touristy, and famous for its towering Volcan Villarica. We climbed the live volcano, sulfur smoke billowing from the top, and enjoying the beautiful Sunrise. The top section is a glaciar requiring crampons and ice picks… sooooooo fun!
We did a 2 day hike with some friends, Friedrich and Saskia, through the neighbouring Araucaria National Park… full of Monkey Puzzle trees and wild cows… weird? Awesome campsite, where we met 2 Kiwis, Bin and Glin (aka Ben and Glen) offering marshmallows and a bonfire.

On our return to Pucón we rewarded ourselves with an afternoon picnic in some natural thermal springs. We were fortunate to have the springs to ourselves… Chris took this very romantic moment to propose… we are now engaged!
Chris bought a beautiful necklace... which he travelled all the way to the bottom of the world (Ushuaia) to purchase for me. It`s stunning! 25 thin silver strands that sit accross the collar bone with a big clasp at the back... beautiful!
